| Bill Gates verkauft seine Beteiligung und Pacific Ethanol beschleuigt seinen Sturz. Alleine heute -18% auf 4,62$, womit selbst die 5-Dollar-Schwelle im Vorbeigehen gerissen wird. Sofern die Probleme vorübergehender Natur sind (Wovon ich bisher ausgehe), dürften sich hier wie in der gasamten Branche bald interessante Einstiegspreise ergeben. Cascade, which owns a 21 percent stake in the company, will convert its preferred stock to 10.5 million common shares and offer them to the public, according to a Pacific Ethanol filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. At the closing price Friday, Gates has lost $24 million on the investment. He paid $84 million for his stake in 2005. Pacific Ethanol, based in Sacramento, California, has fallen 63 percent this year in Nasdaq composite trading, as the burgeoning supply of the fuel additive drove prices down 25 percent. The company reported a third-quarter loss last week of $4.8 million. The filing is "nothing other than optionality," Neil Koehler, chief executive of Pacific Ethanol, said Friday in an interview by telephone. Cascade asked Pacific Ethanol to make the SEC filing, Koehler said. Cascade may sell the shares from "time to time," Pacific Ethanol said in the filing. Gates bought the preferred shares two years ago to help the company finance construction projects on the West Coast. A voice-mail message left for Michael Larson, who manages Cascade's investment holdings, was not returned. Pacific Ethanol shares fell 13 cents, or 2.2 percent, to finish Friday at $5.70, their lowest level since January 2005. Pacific Ethanol produces about 80 million gallons, or 190 million liters, of the additive annually at its plants in Madera, California, and Boardman, Oregon. The company owns a 42 percent stake in a 48 million-gallon plant in Windsor, Colorado. Most analysts do not expect pure-play ethanol producers to be profitable over the next two quarters as supply is expected to increase, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. There are 131 ethanol distilleries in the United States, with the capacity to produce seven billion gallons of the fuel annually, according to the Renewable Fuels Association in Washington. Seventy-two plants under construction will almost double current production. Poet of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is the largest U.S. ethanol producer. Archer Daniels Midland, based in Decatur, Illinois, is the second biggest. |

| Dieser Ausstieg mit Ansage gefällt mir auch gar nicht. Ich denke, Cascade konnte noch gar nicht verkaufen, weil so etwas einige Zeit dauert. > Cascade may sell the shares from "time to time," > Pacific Ethanol said in the filing. Eine bessere Giftpille für den Kurs kann ich mir kaum vorstellen: Ein Großaktionär, der 1/4 aller Aktien hält, droht damit, mit diesen im Laufe der nächsten Zeit bei Interesse spontan die Börse zu fluten. Das bei einem eh schon abstürzenden Kurs anzukündigen, nun ja... > The filing is "nothing other than optionality," Was heißt das? Sollen die Aktien eventuell doch nicht verkauft werden? Vielleicht macht man hier den Porsche und versucht, einen Kurs schlechtzureden, um dann zu Niedrigstpreisen richtig groß einzusteigen? Oder ist die Firma so schlecht dran, dass man nur noch versucht, mit Notverkäufen zu retten was zu retten ist? Mir ist die Firma nach dieser Nachricht jedenfalls nicht mehr geheuer. |

| @ Al Sting: Ich denke, ohne Umwandlung hätte Cascade gar keine Möglichkeit, sich von PEIX Aktien zu trennen. Bisher haben Sie also wohl nicht verkauft. Das man sich die Option des Verkaufens nicht dauerhaft nehmen lassen will (zumal bei der Entwicklung) kann ich nachvollziehen. Aber natürlich hängt diese Ankündigung nun als dunkle Wolke über der weiteren Entwicklung. Gruß Chinaman |

| Das klingt gar nicht gut: - Verluste im Geschäft - Liquidität läuft aus - Schadenszahlungen wegen verfehlter Terminzusagen - Derzeit werden Zusatzaktien auf den Markt geschmissen, um liquide zu bleiben. Derzeit ein absolutes NoGo für mich. Pacific Ethanol expects $14M loss Sacramento Business Journal Shares of Pacific Ethanol Inc. lost 13 percent in after-hours trading Tuesday -- after climbing 15 percent during market hours -- after it filed an 8-K with the Securities and Exchange Commission anticipating a $14 million loss for the 2007 fiscal year. The Sacramento company (Nasdaq: PEIX) "has extremely limited liquidity and requires substantial additional financing to conduct its operations and achieve its business objectives," the 8-K stated. "If the Company is unable to obtain substantial additional financing, it will be unable to achieve its business objectives, will be forced to delay or abandon the construction of one or more plants and may be forced to delay or abandon its plant expansion program in its entirety." The ethanol producer in December halted construction on its Calipatria plant, from which it expects a $2 million write down. Under the company's credit agreement, two other plants, in Madera and Boardman, Ore. were to have been completed by now. The delay in their construction is a default on the agreement, which called for Pacific Ethanol to pay all remaining project costs if the plants were delayed. Pacific Ethanol is proposing to complete the projects by May 16. The company also has raised $40 million through a stock sale to Lyles United LLC, the filing said. Pacific Ethanol is selling preferred stock that is convertible to common stock and warrants for future purchase. |

| Ich halte Bioethanol aus Mais und ähnlichem (ausgenommen Zuckerrohr in den Tropen) generell für Humbug. Das lohnt sich derzeit nur wegen hoher Subventionen. Bioethanolspielereien aus Stärke/Zucker sind meiner Meinung nach das gleiche wie Solarenergie in unseren Breiten -> Blase durch Subventionen. Zu allem Überfluss ist das ganze auch noch ethisch, ökologisch und vom Klimaschutz her eine riesige Sauerei und Mogelpackung. Falls das mal irgnedwann zu den Gesetzgebern durchsickert sind vermutlich alle Bioethanolinvestments (1. Generation zumindest) im Eimer. So lange kann der Hype aber noch ein bißchen weitergehen...... |

| Wenn der Bauer seine Abfälle für die Erzeugung von Biogas nutzt, wenn Frittenfett in Diesel umgewandelt wird, ist das durchaus sinnvoll aber die rühmliche Ausnahme. Im Allgemeinen gebe ich dir Recht: Die Öko- und wirtschaftliche Bilanz der "Öko-Investitionen" ist sehr fragwürdig. Der einfachste Gradmesser wäre: Nur was sich in Deutschland wirtschaftlich rechnet(der ökologische Aufwand also relativ gering ist), kann auch ökologisch sinnvoll sein! Aber was erwarten wir von einem Umverteilungsstaat? Unternehmen, die sich wirtschaftlich selbst tragen, sind ja schon fast verdächtig ... Prof |
