Orckit Demonstrates Support of G.Lite 'Fast Retrain' DSL Reducing
Deployment Costs and Simplifying Installations

Orckit Also Demonstrates Increased Interoperability with Industry Vendors

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Orckit Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: ORCT - news) today announced its support of G.Lite ``fast retrain'' functionality, allowing Digital
Subscriber Line (DSL) providers to activate service without the need for costly and time consuming installations. Orckit is demonstrating this functionality as part of its
participation in the DSL Pavilion at the Consumer Electronics Show 2000 in Las Vegas, January 6-9.

Consumer -Ready ADSL Modems Reduce Installation Costs

Currently, telecommunications companies must send technicians to install telco-provided modems and additional equipment including splitters or micro-filters to create a
DSL-ready environment for consumers. Now, with the support of G.Lite ``fast retrain'' technology, Orckit's DSLAM products will allow service providers to deploy ADSL
services without the need for a service call or additional equipment (i.e. splitters or micro-filters), reducing deployment costs and accelerating the wide-scale availability of DSL.

In a series of recent tests, Orckit proved its DSL leadership by being one of the few Digital Subscriber Line Multiplexer (DSLAM) vendors that can support the ``fast retrain''
functionality of G.Lite (ITU-T G.992.2). In addition, the test results confirmed Orckit's commitment to DSL interoperability by demonstrating G.Lite ``fast retrain'' connectivity
with customer premises equipment (CPE) suppliers including Analog Devices, Centillium, Creative Labs, Compaq, Intel, Lucent, Motorola, PCTel and Samsung.

Orckit Achieves Interoperability With CPE Vendors

Separately, Orckit and its U.S. partner Fujitsu Network Communications have continued to conduct full-rate ADSL interoperability testing with CPE DSL vendors. Compatibility
has been achieved with companies including Analog Devices, Alcatel, Globespan, ITex, Motorola, SASI, Texas Instruments and 3COM.

``As interoperability becomes increasingly desirable, we expect home and business subscriptions to grow in popularity,'' said Nigel Cole, Vice President of Business Development,
Orckit Communications. ``Achieving DSL interoperability and simplified splitterless installation ensures a faster global deployment.''

Orckit's FastInternet(TM) ADSL technology is currently being deployed in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In North America, Orckit has jointly developed the SpeedPort(TM)
ADSL platform with partner Fujitsu Network Communications. SpeedPort is being deployed nationwide. Orckit's DSLAM uses KeyWave(TM), the world's first multi-mode,
single-chip ADSL solution, jointly developed by Orckit and Fujitsu Microelectronics. KeyWave supports full-rate G.dmt (G.992.1, T1.413 Issue 2) and G.lite (G.992.2)
standards.

mib - Donnerstag, 13. Juli 2000 - 23:29
