Razorfish - Ich bin dabei!

How would you differentiate Razorfish from the competition?

Mr. Roberts: One, the scale of our business is a differentiator. Now 2,000 people, and a quarterly revenue rate of $76-$77 million, we have more scale than most of the others. Two, our international footprint with 15 offices in nine countries is larger than many of our competitors. Three, our early presence in the wireless and broadband areas gives us the advantage of the experience of delivered projects. This experience is one reason why our existing and new clients choose us. These factors combined, we believe, positions Razorfish well and with an advantage for what the future growth opportunities are going to be out in 2001-2002 and beyond

Schade Schade...

Razorfish reduces 4Q targets -- again

By Sergio G. Non ZDII

Razorfish (Nasdaq: RAZF) cut its fourth quarter expectations for the second time.
After market close Tuesday, the Internet consultant said it now expects to lose 17 to 22 cents per share in the quarter ended Dec. 31, excluding amortization and a one-time charge related to a previously announced restructuring moves. First Call's survey of a dozen analysts had been predicting a fourth quarter profit of 2 cents per share.

Shares of Razorfish fell to 2.1875 in afterhours activity on the Island electronic communications network, following the warning. Razorfish rose 0.53125 to 3.09375 in Tuesday's regular session, prior to the fourth quarter preannouncement.

The company sees fourth quarter revenue of about $50 million, or at least 35 percent below the $77 million to $78 million indicated by Razorfish when it warned in October.

Tuesday's announcement marks the second warning for Razorfish's fourth quarter. Internet services firms in recent months have been ravaged as dot-coms shut down and traditional companies cut back on spending, or take longer to evaluate projects.

Razorfish underestimated the impact of those changes, CEO Jeff Dachis said.

"As a result, we overestimated the visibility of our pipeline and our performance expectations," he said. "Despite the market shift, we still believe that the underlying trends and strengths of our business model remain in place."

No staff reductions are planned, Dachis said.

Razorfish downgraded, analysts see cash crunch ahead

By Tiffany Kary ZDII

Razorfish (Nasdaq: RAZF) plunged 35 percent Wednesday as analysts downgraded it following another fourth quarter warning, citing the firm's refusal to cut jobs and animpending cash crunch.

Shares in the company were down 1.09 to 2. Shortly after missing its third quarter, Razorfish lowered guidance for its fourth quarter, citing lengthening sales cycles and a general slowing in technology spending. In recent weeks, competitors Scient (Nasdaq: SCNT), IXL Enterprises (Nasdaq: IIXL), and Lante (Nasdaq: LNTE) have also announced shortfalls
Analyst Vincent Colicchio at Southwest Securities downgraded the stock to "neutral" from "accumulate," and lowered earnings and revenue estimates for fiscal 2001.

"We believe that the company will have difficulty retaining both technology and creative design professionals given the weakening in the business pipeline and the likelihood of continued weakness in stock price performance," Colicchio stated in a research note.

Given management's commitment not to make significant employee cuts, the analyst said he expects the company's financial position to further deteriorate over the next few quarters.

Despite a cash balance of $84.1 million at the close of (the third quarter), our estimated cash burn rate of $30 million per quarter for the next few quarters is a cause for concern," Colicchio added.

Morgan Stanley analyst Robert St. Jean downgraded the stock to "long-term buy" from "buy" and lowered estimates

"The rationale for lowering our rating now is based on our view that the company does not appear to be taking sufficient steps to reduce its cost structure in the facing of rapidly contracting demand," St Jean stated in his research note.

"We believe the substantial revenue shortfall calls into question the company's ability to accurately forecast near-term demand and manage resources appropriately," the analyst added.

Compared to competitors, St. Jean said the "magnitude of the Razorfish's shortfall (is) surprising," and added he believes the company will become cash constrained later in mid-2001 depending on a number of factors including management's decisions concerning staffing levels.

Along with Sapient (Nasdaq: SAPE), marchFIRST (Nasdaq: MRCH) and Proxicom (Nasdaq: XCM), St. Jean said, the company "has long term potential because of the strength of their brand in the Internet services marketplace. ... We ultimately believe the Internet services market will see renewed growth, and that the sector has room for multiple successful firms."

However, he sees a prolonged downturn in corporate IT investment, which should last into mid-2001.

SG Cowen analyst Moshe Katri also downgraded the stock to "neutral," finding the company's lack of staff reductions "odd" and anticipating a cash crunch.

Katri did not change estimates, and is awaiting an update during the company's earnings call in January.

On the bright side, Katri noted that CEO Jeff Dachis said he expects the market to rebound within the next three months or so and that the company will need its full consultant base.

UPDATE 1-Razorfish shares hit after earnings warning

12/12/00
» Back to RAZORFISH INC News

(Adds details throughout, byline)

By Cyntia Barrera Diaz

NEW YORK, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Shares of Internet consulting and services firm Razorfish Inc. saw all its hefty Tuesday gains of over 20 percent vanish in after hours trading shortly after the company warned that its fourth quarter results would not meet Wall Street's forecast.

Razorfish shares rose 17/32, or 20.73 percent, to $3-3/32 on volume of 2.07 million shares on Tuesday.

But after the Nasdaq market closed the company said that it expected fourth quarter pro forma losses per share of between 17 cents and 22 cents, quite distant from analysts' expectations of a profit of 2 cents a share, as a First Call/Thomson Financial survey showed.

The company attributed the downward revision -- among the last ones in a vast list of technology firms that have warned of weaker results recently -- to less money flowing into technology firms amid adverse macroeconomic conditions.

Razorfish reported earnings of 6.0 cents a share in the fourth quarter of 1999 and profit of 1.0 cent per share in the third quarter of this year.

Tuesday's earnings warning -- the second consecutive warning from Razorfish -- sent the stock reeling to levels of $2-7/32, just a fraction of its all-time high of $56-15/16 set on Feb. 14 this year and a whopping 86 percent down from the company's April 26 market debut price of $16.

Razorfish, which develops network products for Internet companies, also projected on Tuesday that its revenues in the fourth quarter would be around $50 million, compared to Wall Street's forecast of $82.65 million.

The company's revision puts Razorfish's revenue performance way below the $77.1 million reported in the third quarter and the $103.5 million result obtained in the fourth quarter of 1999.

In a conference call on Tuesday afternoon, company officials said that Razorfish would continue to invest in infrastructure and training but did not provide a figure.

New York-based Razorfish has 15 offices in nine countries in North America, Europe and Asia and employs 1900 people.

Jeff Dachis, the company's chief executive officer, said on Tuesday that Razorfish had no plans to undergo any significant staff reductions.

(BEL/HUY)
