:-) Gruß ein neugieriger Chinaman Magic 25™: Take-Two's Shares Poised to Rise Tell us what you think in TTWO's Board http://www.individualinvestor.com Research Analyst: Will Frankenhoff (8/8/00) Since early July, shares of Take-Two drifted down over 25% and currently trade in the upper $9 range. Meanwhile, shares of competitors Activision (Nasdaq: ATVI - Quotes, News, Boards) and THQ Interactive (Nasdaq: THQI - Quotes, News, Boards) advanced 57% and 34%, respectively. We realize that shares of these companies had previously been beaten down as they both issued earnings warnings with regards to second quarter and full year 2000 earnings but their advance coupled with Take-Two's decline is puzzling. Simply put, both Activision and THQ recently announced second quarter results that beat reduced estimates. But this doesn't explain the decline in Take-Two's shares and we have been looking to see if there was a company specific problem that we might have missed. After kicking the proverbial tires it seems to us that everything is on track at Take-Two. We believe the recent price decline might reflect investor sentiment that Take-Two has to be as susceptible to the factors that tripped up its competitors and that it's only a matter of time before that misstep occurs. On this issue, we respectfully disagree. Take-Two has managed to beat estimates (and not reduced estimates at that) by more than 10% in each of the last five quarters while competitors were issuing earnings warnings. This gives us some measure of reassurance. Furthermore, as we have pointed out in previous updates, Take-Two is less susceptible to industry pressures than its' competitors vis-à-vis the strength of its Jack of All Games value added distribution business and its broad geographic reach. As we have previously outlined, the distribution division generated $33.6 million, or 48% of total revenue, in the second fiscal quarter, a 59% increase over the prior year's period. This source of revenue isn't available to other competitors and provides somewhat of a safety net in case of sluggish publishing sales. In addition, the fact that Take-Two generates close to 50% of revenue from overseas makes it less dependent on the U.S. market where other players have been affected by the delayed shipment of the PlayStation2. It should be noted that Take-Two derives a fair amount of revenue where sales of PlayStation2 have been brisk. We see three catalysts that can move Take-Two's shares in upcoming months: the release of earnings on August 25th that should hopefully reassure investors, the U.S. release of PlayStation Two in late October and the European IPO of the company's Broadband Studio division. Shares of Take-Two trade at just 10 times fiscal (October) 2000 earnings estimates of $0.91 and 8 times fiscal 2001 estimates of $1.16, despite expected earnings growth of 88% and 27% respectively. We would like to point out that these estimates don't include any revenue from sales of PlayStation2 titles that could add upside potential. We reiterate our buy recommendation and reaffirm our price target of $20. Updated August 8, 2000 with TTWO trading at $9.72 Recommended 12/10/99 at $11.25 |

28.09.00 briefing.com 09:20 ET ****** Entertainment Software : It was a bad day for this group yesterday as investors braced for disappointing news from Sony (SNE 99 3/8) regarding the October 26 launch of its highly anticipated gaming console, PlayStation2 (PS2). How the market knew to be concerned before an actual public announcement was made by the company is a topic unto itself, but for the matter at hand, Sony did eventually announce it wouldn't be shipping as many PS2 consoles at the launch date as it had previously expected. In fact, it anticipates shipping roughly half of the 1 million units it had originally planned due to an unspecified components shortage that caused production delays. The silver lining in all of this is that Sony does expect it will still be able to meet its global sales target of 10 million units by March 31, which includes 3 million units in North America, as the components issue dissipates, enabling it to ramp up production from 400,000 units a month to more than 1 million by the fall. After the October 26 launch, Sony said it will be shipping 100,000 units per week through the end of the year, but even that production ramp is going to leave plenty of consumers disappointed for the holidays as Sony originally projected U.S. shipments of 2 million units by the end of the year. So, what is the impact on entertainment software makers such as Electronic Arts (ERTS 45 3/16), Activision (ATVI 12 5/8), THQ, Inc.. (THQI 21 1/16), Take Two Interactive (TTWO 11 1/4) and Midway Games (MWY 6 1/2)? Frankly, the real impact will be more psychological than fundamental. Although expectations had been running high heading into the PS2 release, it should be noted that most of the software makers didn't have many titles set to be released at the launch date. Subsequently, the PS2 shortfall shouldn't have much impact on their top-line. THQ said as much today in a press release. Moreover, the hardware shortfall could be a blessing in disguise as it will create a supply-demand imbalance that could lead to better pricing conditions for the software companies during Q4 since the industry has been struggling for a while now dealing with platform transition issues that have led to a difficult pricing environment. Regardless, the real impact of PS2 sales for the software companies will be next year. If Sony is to be believed, everything should be back on track by then which means yesterday's dip can be seen as an enticing (re)entry opportunity as the entertainment software companies remain in a good position to live up to some optimistic sales and earnings expectations.-- Patrick J. sehr positiv! haben sehr gute Zahlen vorgelegt! haben fuer 2001 zehn games fuer Playstation 2 im Aermel! haben sehr gute Verbindungen zu Microsoft, die mit ihrer xBox (der MSFT-Spielekonsole) demnaechst auf den Markt kommen und hier mit einem TTWO-Spiel loslegen. sind sehr "billig". (NasdaqNM:THQI - news), Activision Inc. (NasdaqNM:ATVI - news), and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (NasdaqNM:TTWO - news) with buy ratings. ADVERTISEMENT ``We believe that the interactive entertainment industry is just beginning what will be the largest and most significant growth phase in its history,'' analyst Heath Terry wrote in a research note. ``Powered by a growing customer base, a new console cycle, and the emergence of new business models such as online and wireless gaming, we believe this industry offers growth and visibility found in few other places in today's market,'' the research note said. Terry set a $50 a share price target on THQ, the second largest independent publisher of video game software, saying it is one of the best positioned companies to benefit from industry growth. THQ shares closed at $38.09 on Monday. Activision has built upon its Tony Hawk franchise of skateboarding video games to strengthen the company and invest in product development for new video game consoles, such as Microsoft Corp.'s (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) upcoming XBox. Terry gave Activision, which closed at $27.26 on Monday, a $35 price target. ``Take-Two is the turn around story in the interactive entertainment industry,'' Terry said. Take-Two's executive ranks have changed and ``this team is focused on improving the company's balance sheet, retail relationships, and product line-up,'' Terry said, noting that Take Two has a $20 price target. Take-Two shares closed $13.94 on Monday. |

This will be the biggest five-year up-cycle in this industry's history. Activision (ATVI) still remains our favorite. But if I had to pick one company right now with the best chance of a 100%+ move over the next 12 months, it's Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (TTWO). The reason is that Take-Two has just gone through a significant financial reorganization that's not priced into the stock. Additionally, they have the No. 1 European PlayStation 2 game which, as the PS2 starts to gain critical mass in the U.S. market this year, should give Take-Two faster earnings growth than ATVI. Traditionally, these stocks swoon a little after the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) gaming conference in Los Angeles, which is the end of next week. They typically run up before the show and then sell off. Pick up Take-Two at or under $15 after the show. The Digital Game ChangeWave is massive and long-lasting. As usual, money is made in the high-growth margin intellectual property owners and not the box makers, who will be fighting it out with $1 billion of consumer marketing spending over the next 12 months. habe nochmals 30% meiner restlichen TTWOs verkauft - die laufen zu schnell zu hoch. Gruss - Mib |

11:15 ET Entertainment Software: : Within the past year, few groups have performed as well as the entertainment software industry. Players within that space include the likes of Activision (ATVI 36.95 +1.48), Electronic Arts (ERTS 54.32 +1.20), Take-Two Interactive (TTWO 19.25 +0.56), Midway Games (MWY 15.10 +0.09), Acclaim Entertainment (AKLM 4.05 +0.05) and the 3DO Company (THDO 3.58 +0.10). Riding a wave of optimism surrounding the launch of next generation consoles that includes Sony's PlayStation 2, Nintendo's GameCube and Game Boy Advance, and Microsoft's XBox, the stocks mentioned above have enjoyed some enviable buying interest. To wit, industry leader Electronic Arts is up 27% year-to-date-- and it's the "laggard" of the group. While recent earnings results have been relatively good, they haven't exactly been blockbuster. For instance, ATVI reported its fiscal Q1 results last night and its net income was a mere $29,000 or a nominal amount per share. Informed investors, though, know that it is the future that matters, and when it comes to the entertainment software industry, the future is bright. ATVI provided confirmation of that view when it raised its sales and earnings guidance for FY02 and boosted its FY03 forecast to $1.11 from $1.09 per share. Separately, ATVI maintained its earnings guidance of $0.01 per share for the current quarter and increased its fiscal Q3 outlook to $0.75 from $0.70 per share. One of the few knocks on the group at this time is that much of the good news regarding the release of new platforms, and the expected ramp in software sales, has already been priced into the stocks. To an extent, that is true, and recently, the group succumbed to profit taking as the market recognized it had gotten overextended. Prior to today's activity, ATVI had fallen 14% from its June 13 peak of 41.15; TTWO had dropped 24% from its June high; and MWY was off 19% from its best levels. Each of those stocks, and the others in the industry, are trading higher today in response to ATVI's earnings report. Briefing.com believes the group probably needs to spend some more time in a consolidation phase, yet ATVI's report confirmed that the industry's earnings momentum is beginning to build. Subsequently, we think there is still ample reason to buy the stocks on material pullbacks.-- Patrick J. O'Hare, Briefing.com |

@ mib: Bist Du noch investiert ? :-) Gruß Chinaman Spielesoftwarehersteller Take-Two Interactive gerät unter Druck. Two weitere Fragen an Take-Two gestellt habe.
